Stranded

I am away from London, in a place closely resembling paradise (rural and peaceful, friendly people, constant supply of delicious, free food and alcoholic beverages). IT sucks, however, so I'm reduced to using my mobile phone's browser. The 'price' I have to pay for typing has shot up, so quantity has to fall. I'm back tomorrow afternoon - normal service will resume soon after.

Datacharmer, I know where you are and you're an idiot. There are at least 20 PCs with internet access in the libary!

Now what am I supposed to read? Yours, Greg Mankiw.

PS. In datacharmer's absence, I'm continuing full service at http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/

Datacharmer, your concern for your readers is to be applauded as updating the site on your phone is a level of dedication that puts you in a different league to most bloggers. The previous poster really shows a lack of respect for you and your blog.

Surely the least you can do is invest in a laptop so that you don't end up letting down your avid fanbase??

To the last anonymous comment, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Greg Mankiw may have been showing a lack of respect, but it seems entirely warranted given the poor service. I for one don't really care about datacharmer's IT problems, but I do care about my Friday Special.

I was not referring to Mr Mankiw but to the anonymous illiterate individual who said he wouldn't read the blog again. Frankly, i thought Datacharmer catered for a differnt level of reader.

I'm gutted. What am I going to do with my Friday afternoon up here now that I don't have a decent post to read?

In the meantime, given the high activity levels on this comments board, does anyone perhaps have a blog of their own to share?

No links, no funnys, no final farewell to the week that was: Datacharmer, this is bad Datakarma .

    Dear disgruntled reader,

My attempt to fill the datacharmer void:

    Post title: Big Brother

I don't really get Big Brother the TV program, currently showing on Channel 4 in the UK. I mean, what are the economics of it? Are there some externalities here or is it a public goods problem? That's clearly what Evan Davis thinks, but as Tim Worstall says, that guy's a dipstick. No, let's be honest, it all comes down to two economic theories now thought to be out-of-date but widely relevant in my opinion: Cobweb Theorem and the kinked demand curve. I think that says it all really.

Son, you wanna get to the big league? You'll have to pull your socks up darn straight. And take the piss out of God a bit more too

i thought Datacharmer's job in life was to break down Economic Jargon. THe only Kinks i know are playing at Glastenbury and provided at an establishment near Bethnal Green

Out of interest, is this 'paradise' where you are are receiving free food and being looked after by friendly people some kind of rehab clinic for the follicly challenged?

    For "disgruntled reader":

    Datacharmer on raisins

So, like, I don't really get the economics of raisins? I mean aren't they just shrivelled up grapes that don't taste very nice or have any moisture in them? They're having a laugh! More seriously, there must be something economically wrong. Like why would you be a shrivelled up little raisin when you could be a grape instead? Even at the margin, how could you ever be better off as a raisin rather than being a grape? I was having a quiet weekend so I ran a probit model on the probability of being "satisfied" or "highly satisfied" with life for a sample of grapes and raisins, and unsurprisingly, you're 27% more likely to be satisfied or highly satisfied with life if you're a grape. Even Evan Davis would understand the strength of this result (which is robust to using a logit model instead).
